History
Knockerra old church, cruciform in design, was erected in 1832 when the dark days of Penal enactment against the Catholic Faith were being relaxed.
Extensive repairs were carried out in 1929.Local voluntary labour was use as well as paid labour. The old wooden altar was transferred to Killimer Church. Seats were donated by local families and therefore proudly occupied by them. It had two galleries
A decision was made in the late fifties to demolish the old church in Knockerra, plans were drawn up, Tom Power donated the extra land required, an auction was held to dispose of surplus materials, the old church was demolished and the site was prepared for the building.
On Sunday 30th April 1961, Bishop Joseph Rodgers celebrated mass in the new church and dedicated it to St. Senan. The church can accommodate 550 people. The new church is rectangular in shape, with narrowing at the sanctuary, based on the Gothic tradition with high lancet windows.
